Profile: I have to say, after reading some of the other bios from contributing DJs of DHN, that I am in very good company. Spinning records is my favorite thing to do, but unlike most of the great DJs that you will find here I never made a career out of it.

The first time I encountered DJ turntables was in 1986 in Montreal, Canada my hometown. I was starting CEGEP (a sort of prep school between High School and University) and I had volunteered for the CEGEP’s radio station. They had these brand new Technics 1800s (it’s not a typo these 1800s had the pitch control in the front and they had a roller instead of the 1200’s slider) and a huge Yamaha mixer. I learned to mix using the alternative music I loved at the time; beat matching between the Smiths and Depeche Mode for example. I discovered Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Skinny Puppy and all those great electronic bands from the 80’s. One year later I landed a residency at a popular alternative club in Montreal called The Thunderdome. In 1989 it all ended. I started university and left DJ’ing behind. I concentrated on my studies and in 1991 graduated and started my new career as a visual effects artist.

In 1995 I moved to Los Angeles for work purposes and I rediscovered the underground club scene. Music never left me it was just waiting to comeback in my life. A year and a half ago after working on many film projects I decided that I needed a hobby to take me away from sitting for those long hours in front of a computer making movie magic. I went out and bought a set of decks with a mixer and my first vinyl in over ten years. Like the expression says, “It’s like riding a bike”, you don’t forget how to mix you just get a little rusty. It’s nothing that a little practice can’t fix.

Today I’m the happiest I have ever been. Not only did I rediscover dj’ing all over again but I also met around the same time the woman who has become my wife, Sandra. She is my inspiration in all I do and like the music I play she is beautiful, sensual and happy.

Thank you to Deep House Network for including my mix with the works of these other great artists and thank you for reading this bio. I would encourage you to please leave your comments of the set so I can improve the future ones for your listening pleasure.

Peace, Love, and Deep House Music All Nite Long.

Ricardo
